What explains the resurgence of COVID-19 in Manaus, Brazil, despite high seroprevalence?

In this paper, LAC faculty Dr Andreza Aruska de Souza Santos joins the CADDE group in research published by The Lancet on 27 January 2021 (read it here: https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(21)00183-5/fulltext). They discuss the COVID-19 pandemic, the high attack rate in the city of Manaus in the first months of the pandemic in Brazil, the dynamics of distancing measures locally, the new variants recently found in the city and the resurgence of cases.

A previous Publication by the same group in Science 2020 also focussed on the case of Manaus; “Three-quarters attack rate of SARS-CoV-2 in the Brazilian Amazon during a largely unmitigated epidemic” discussed the tragedy and harm to society when this virus is left to run its course.
