Alan Knight, LAC Emeritus Professor, gave a keynote lecture in Bogotá, as part of a series of events organised to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the Business History group (Grupo de Investigacion Historia y Empresariado, GHE) of the School of Management from the Universidad de los Andes. Entitled “Los que mandan: rol y formación de las élites en América Latina, siglo XX’, the lecture took place on 18 June 2024 at the Colegio Gimnasio moderno in a joint event with the LAC, coordinated by Dr Luis Gabriel Galán Guerrero at the Andes.
Professor Knight’s visit to Bogotá was part of a broader research agenda—led by Dr Galán-Guerrero at LASA 2024, and which included other distinguished historians of Latin American, such as Barbara Weinstein, David S. Parker, Patience Schell, Margaret Chowning, Rebekah E. Pite, Sueann Caulfield, Ricardo López-Pedreros, and Mariana Muaze—that seeks to showcase new ways of writing social and cultural histories of the elites and upper classes in Latin America during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
