Scholarships at the Latin American Centre
The Latin American Centre offers a number of part and full scholarships to attract the very strongest students who would otherwise not be able to come and study in Oxford. These are all highly competitive, and require high quality well-crafted research proposals. With the exception of ESRC studentships, you do not have to apply separately for any of these awards.

Latin American Centre Scholarships
Argentine Studies Fund Scholarship
- For: Nationals or Residents of Argentina.
- Courses: MSc and MPhil Latin American Studies (Year 1 or Year 2).
- Value: £12,000 (non-renewable).
- Deadline to apply: 12 noon, Friday 19 January 2024
ESRC Masters-to-DPhil Studentships
- For: UK residents (check ESRC criteria). A Masters-to-DPhil scholarship for students who are committed to pursue doctoral study at Oxford. Applications for ESRC studentships are made via the relevant department.
- Courses: MSc Latin American Studies, MPhil Latin American Studies.
- Value: LAC Tuition Fee + College Fee.
- Deadline to apply: 12 noon, Friday 19 January 2024
OSGA-LAC Scholarship
- For: All nationalities.
- Courses: MSc and MPhil Latin American Studies (Year 1 or Year 2).
- Value: £15,000 (non-renewable). Partial support for course fees.
- Application process: Once you submit your application please send an email to the Admissions Officer (enquiries@lac.ox.ac.uk) to express your interest. The scholarship will be allocated on a competitive basis to those who have no other funding opportunities.

Ronaldo Falconer Scholarship
- For: Residents of Costa Rica.
- Courses: MSc Latin American Studies.
- Value: £12,000 (non-renewable).
- Deadline to apply: 12 noon, Friday 19 January 2024
The William de Segundo Scholarship
- For: All nationalities.
- Courses: MSc and MPhil Latin American Studies (Year 1 or Year 2).
- Value: Contribution towards tuition fees.
- Application process: Once you submit your application please send an email to the Admissions Officer (enquiries@lac.ox.ac.uk) to express your interest and cc info@thecanningclub.co.uk requesting to be considered for the scholarship and explaining how you meet the criteria.

Julie and Joseph Rodriguez Scholarship
The scholarship was established by the generosity of Jaime and Melinda Davila in memory of Julie and Joseph Rodriguez. Jaime Davila is an Oxford alum who studied for the MSc in Latin American Studies.
- For: Applicants who are ordinarily resident outside of the UK.
- Course: MSc in Latin American Studies, taught by the Latin American Centre.
- Value: £10,000 is available towards tuition fees for the 2024/25 academic year.

Oxford MESCYT Scholarship
- For: Candidates must be ordinarily resident in the Dominican Republic.
- Courses: Apply to any full-time master’s or DPhil course.

Swire and Oxford & Cambridge Society of Kenya Scholarship
- For: An applicant who is a Kenyan citizen.
- Courses: A one-year Master’s degree in the academic year 2024-25 at St Antony’s College.
- Value: The scholarship will be for a value of up to £40k.

Swire Scholarships
- For: Applicants who are permanent residents of Japan, Chinese mainland or Hong Kong SAR and have completed the majority of their formal education in their country/region of permanent residency
- Courses: For all those who will commence study on a course offered by St Antony's College in 2024/25 (DPhils, MPhils and MSc applicants in courses accepted by St Antony’s are all eligible)
- Value: 100% of the course fees, a grant for living costs of £17,442 per year (2024/25 rate)

University-wide Scholarships
The University of Oxford offers a mixture of scholarships and awards, with a range of eligibility criteria often including the applicant’s country of origin.
There are over 1,000 full scholarships available through the University for graduate courses in 2023/24. Clarendon Scholarships
- Amount: Fees and a contribution towards living expenses.
- Eligibility: Academic merit and potential.
- Application process: No separate application process.
- Clarendon Scholarships aim to give the most academically-able students not only the life-changing opportunity to study at Oxford, but also the chance to form lasting social, academic and professional networks.
Rhodes Scholarships
- Amount: Fees and a contribution towards living expenses
- Eligibility: Outstanding candidates with citizenship in one of the Rhodes constituent countries and, since 2018, there are now also two Global Rhodes Scholarships available to outstanding candidates from any country not already with an existing Rhodes scholarship.

- The Rhodes Scholarships are postgraduate awards supporting exceptional students from around the world to study at the University of Oxford.
Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Scholarships and Leadership Programme
- Amount: Fees and a contribution towards living expenses.
- Eligibility: Various by country residency.
- Application process: Via questionnaire and University of Oxford application form - follow link for details.
- The Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Scholarships and Leadership Programme cultivates the leaders of tomorrow by providing outstanding university graduates and professionals from developing and emerging economies with the opportunity to pursue fully-funded graduate studies at the University of Oxford, combined with a comprehensive programme of leadership development, long-term mentoring and networking.
Pershing Square Scholarship
Every year, the Pershing Square Foundation awards up to five full scholarships to support outstanding students on the 1+1 MBA, covering the tuition & living fees for both the Master's degree and the MBA year.

Chevening Scholarships
Chevening Scholarships is the UK government’s international awards scheme aimed at developing global leaders. Funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations, Chevening offers two types of award – Chevening Scholarships and Chevening Fellowships – the recipients of which are personally selected by British Embassies and High Commissions throughout the world.

The MPhil Latin American Studies is a twenty-one-month programme which spans six academic terms, plus fieldwork research in Latin America, for up to 3 months, carried out in between the first and second academic year. Students are strongly encouraged to seek funding to cover the expenses of their fieldwork.
Latin American Centre MPhil Fieldwork Travel Grant
- For: Current on-course Graduate Students at the Latin American Centre.
- Courses: MPhil in Latin American Studies.
- Value: At discretion of fund committee, up to £1,000.
- Deadline to apply: Thursday of Week 0, Trinity Term.
- How to apply: Submit a research proposal, budget and a cover letter, together with a letter of support from your supervisor, by email to the LAC Administrator by the deadline.
Carlos de Sola Wright Memorial Fund
- For: Current On-Course Graduate Students at Oxford.
- Courses: Any postgraduate course at Oxford University.
- Value: At discretion of fund committee.
- Deadline to apply: Monday of Week 2 in Michaelmas, Hilary or Trinity Term.
The David Nicholls Awards
The David Nicholls Memorial Trust is committed to assisting original research about Caribbean societies, and the region at large, and has established several awards in memory of David Nicholls.
- For: Original research to be included in the submission of a dissertation or thesis for a postgraduate degree that requires substantive fieldwork in the Caribbean, with a minimum stay of two weeks in the region.
- Courses: Postgraduate students attending academic institutions in the UK or in the Caribbean are eligible to apply.
- Value: Up to £1,500. This award is intended as a contribution towards the applicant’s research expenses such as travel to and subsistence in the Caribbean, and most other costs incurred directly in relation to the research project. The award cannot be used for the purchase of research equipment.
- Deadline to apply: Annual closing date of 1st April.
