To honour the memory of Malcolm Deas (1942-2023), the Bodleian LAC library has put on a book display in the entrance hall of the Centre, featuring selections from Malcolm's published works. Examples include seminal monographs, such as Dos ensayos especulativos sobre la violencia en Colombia, contributions to anthologies and journal articles - amongst many other titles. Not to mention a printed list of the 49 completed DPhil theses that Malcolm supervised.
For library historians, there is a small selection of catalogue cards in Malcolm's handwriting taken from the brass-handled cabinets on which the book display can be seen for the next two weeks (think of the cabinets as the precursor to SOLO). The inclusion of the cards seems so appropriate, given Malcolm's unwavering support for the library over five decades.
The LAC is grateful to the Library team, Frank, Rebeca and Sam for their work they have put into making the book display happen.
The exhibition will be open until the end of the month.
